Irish Forced to Vote Again on Lisbon Treaty

Will the Irish fall to the fallacies of Royalty?

With the repackaging of the EU Constitution into the Lisbon Treaty came the dictate that popular vote would no longer take place after the public trouncing it took as a Constitution. But one bastion Republic held out that anything to do with the sovereign act of making laws must be held up to public referendum. That was the Republic of Ireland. Ireland rejected the Lisbon Treaty handily just as the French and Dutch had when people were allowed a say.

While the lofty preamble of “we the royalty of Europe in order to form a more perfect order” was displaced, the Lisbon Treaty is nothing more than a rulers delight, a bankers dream, and a granting of a couple rights to children so the government can have a better grip on their future subjects while depriving parents of their own discretions.

The EU is a sham in the first place and nothing more than the Holy Roman Empire reborn. In fact Mr. Sarkozy, a direct royal descendent, hopes he will be the first permanent president. I guess he did not notice the infamous Tony Blair waiting in the wings for this reward for his actions supporting the Iraq fiasco.

While the easing of borders and the fact that one can work anywhere is wonderful the fact is shameful governments erected the roadblocks in the first place without their subjects voting for it. I have never been in a country where individuals did not want freedom and friendship with their neighbors. It is governments that devise the enemies and drag the people to fight for idiotic rationale. No one leaves their homes to fight and die without threats from governments of one sort or the other.

Now the world waits to see if the Irish still have the stomach for freedom. Billions of Euros have been poured into the fray to sway the Irish vote to “yes” but polls do not see the Lisbon Treaty passing yet. The Irish might have read the 100’s of pages of legalese and noticed they would now have a government thousands of miles from home where they have no hopes of doing anything.

Last summer the Spanish learned this the hard way when truckers went on strike for lower fuel prices or higher wages to compensate. The Spanish government was quick to respond they could do nothing as their hands were tied by Brussels, the EU laws would not allow them to help their people in any way. How could this be? Spanish truckers would now have to protest in Brussels where they have little chance to be noticed and no chance of success.

The government that governs best governs least. The father from home a government is the less responsive it will be. A centralized government over a vast territory will never rule properly and never has. Giving up your national will to that of a vast bureaucracy thousands of kilometers from your borders is a dreadful thought. Add to that the fact that elected officials can do nothing more than suggest laws while appointed agent administers of the rulers, kings, queens and despots make the law without respect of the elected assemblies and you have the making of a royal dictatorship disguised as a democratic republic – which the EU is not.

The EU operates under the knowledge that the people are complacent as long as they are fed and clothed. Keep them with the minimum and they will not mind that mind boggling restrictions on freedom will be placed on them and of course tax them like crazy. Corruption is not only accepted, but is honored in the EU. Each years change of presidency find the previous ripping off the coffers while the next president wants to start fresh for change and forgive the past – so they have their chance ripping the coffers. The EU defines this as “rotating presidency.” Not happy with only a year, they wanted a permanent presidency and Sarkozy thought he would be a lifetime emperor of Europe. It seems this was shortened to 2 years. I guess 1 year of dipping in the till was doubled in the new treaty?

All the rest of Europe’s people can do is to hope that the only nation able to vote on these travesties keeps on course and votes NO! Vote No Lisbon Treaty!
