The Democratic Party representatives made a symbolic gesture of responsibility in sending the new wiretap law to the President for his veto. George W. Bush is adamant that he protects his partners in criminal wiretapping.

Representative Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas, lamented, “We cannot conduct foreign surveillance without them (telecom companies). But if we continue to subject them to billion-dollar lawsuits, we risk losing their cooperation in the future."

The government can compel telecommunication companies to cooperate if it gets the warrant from the courts. At issue is illegal wire tapping by Verizon and othes, and the complicity of corporations to aid in the surreptitious illegal wire tapping that the executive branch imposed on its citizens.

The problem with evil is that most people will do it if someone else takes responsibility. The phone companies volunteered with an understanding that the government will back them. But they are finding out that just like Hitler’s troopers doing the illegal work of your boss does not relieve you of responsibility. You know the old story your parents asked? If you friend jumped off the building would you do it too? How stupid are you? Too stupid to lead me that’s for sure.

So the phone companies, AT&T, WorldCom, Verizon and others sit with over 50 law suits right now for their illegal actions and this is all about legalizing the illegal. Allowing both the executive branch and the corporations to become above the law. Spying on Americans in America is not American no matter how much fear of the boogie man mass media has instilled in you.

The real problem is that the Democrats will eventually pass that through “secret” meetings where it will be explained that the telecoms will have to go to jail and worse it will ruin the economy and the peoples trust in their government. Therefore it is of national security to maintain the lie and keep the trust in the continued criminal action in government. Crime is only for those who can’t afford doing things criminal. For those with money crime is just work while the rest of us pay for it.
